Fall’s cool breezes will celebrate the glorious grape when, for the sixth year, the annual wine happening that is Lincoln Park Wine Fest transforms tranquil Jonquil Park into an open-air market featuring wine and food pavilions. The highlight is ticketed wine tastings where scores of varietals will be showcased.

Tasting Tickets & Session Times


Session Times
Friday: 5pm to 7pm; 8pm to 10pm
Saturday: 11am to 1pm; 2pm to 4pm; 5pm to 7pm; 8pm to 10pm

General Admission - $40 in advance, At the Door $50
Limited to 600 people per session.

The park is easily accessible by the #8, #11, #74 bus lines or by Brown Line stop at Diversey, two blocks north of Jonquil Park, or the Red, Brown and Purple line stop at Fullerton located near DePaul University. White Wine Evaluation Terms

  • Floral: honeysuckle, jasmine, peach blossoms
  • Body: compare light to medium to heavy, as if skim milk to whole milk to heavy cream
  • Acid: pleasant = crisp, high = mild heart burn, lacking = “blah”
  • Tree Fruit: apple, pear, apricot, peach
  • Citrus Fruit: lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, tangerine
  • Tropical Fruit: pineapple, kiwi, melon, star fruit, banana, coconut
  • Oak Flavors: toast, smoke, spice, vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, nuts
  • Other: yeasty, mineral, herbs, white pepper, grass, cat urine
  • Finish: length of time taste lingers (usually the longer, the better)
  • Balance: all factors are well integrated

Characteristics by Varietal

  • Chardonnay: light to medium-heavy body; citrus; apple; pear; melon; pineapple; fig; mixed tropical
    • If malolactic fermentation: creamy; butter; buttered popcorn
    • If aged in oak: toast; vanilla; butterscotch; nuttiness; oaky
    • If aged in stainless steel: crisp; fresh; tart
  • Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris: light body; pear; apple; lemon; mineral Sauvignon Blanc: light body; grapefruit; fig; lemon; melon
    • If unoaked: grass, herbs, cat urine
    • If oaked: spice; vanilla; smoke; musk; nuttiness
  • Viognier: light to medium body; peach; apricot; honeysuckle; orange blossom; spice; nuttiness; musk


Red Wine Evaluation Terms

  • Floral: rose, geranium, violets
  • Body: compare light to medium to heavy, as if skim milk to whole milk to heavy cream
  • Red Fruit: strawberry, cherry, raspberry, plum
  • Black Fruits: black cherry, plum, currant, blackberry, prune, blueberry
  • Oak Flavors: toast, smoke, spice, vanilla, cedar, bacon, oak
  • Earthy Flavors: mushrooms, fungus, dirt, leather, forest floor, barnyard
  • Other: chocolate, mint, eucalyptus, cola, tobacco, tar
  • Finish: time taste lingers (usually longer is better)
  • Balance: all factors are well integrated

Characteristics by Varietal:

  • Cabernet Franc: medium body; red fruits; raspberries; violets; soft tannins
  • Cabernet Sauvignon: medium to heavy body; black fruits; cherry; plums; currents; herbs; mine; eucalyptus; olive; tobacco; leather; green pepper; coffee; chocolate; soft to powerful tannins
  • Merlot: medium to heavy body; red and black fruits; berry; plums; herbs; chocolate; mocha; coffee; soft to powerful tannins
  • Pinot Noir: light to medium body; strawberry; cherry; violets; rose petals; cola; earth; leather; soft to medium tannins
  • Syrah: heavy body; rose; black fruits; currents; cherry; plums; pepper; espresso; vanilla; black pepper; white pepper; medium tannins
  • Zinfandel: medium to heavy body; black fruit; cherry; plums; currents; raisins; black pepper; light tannins
