Michael joined Special Events Management in 2015 and brought with him a breadth of knowledge in the Information Technology sector. Since joining SEM, he has revolutionized our technology capabilities, allowing us to be responsive and nimble. When he is not designing and maintaining our multiple websites for our two organizations, or producing events from coast to coast, he is also the official race timer for the world renowned Leadville Race Series which includes one full and (heavy) half marathon, a 50-mile bike and 50-mile run and a 100-mile bike and 100-mile run through the mountains of Colorado. He also is the race timer for the Skyrise Stair Climb, Race Judicata, AIDS Run Walk, the Brain Tumor 5K in 8 North American Cities, the Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs Marathons.
Q & A with Michael
What’s your favorite activity to do outside of work?
Home improvement projects!
What’s your favorite part of working at SEM?
I love the diversity of work that I do. Whether I am timing races, helping update a website, choosing a phone system or designing a spreadsheet, it’s never boring.
What’s your favorite event we manage and why?
I love helping with Race Judicata because it provides funding for people who need access to legal services who cannot normally afford it.
What are your three favorite foods?
Sushi, Lou Malnati’s and Ribeye Steak.
If you were a superhero, what would your name be?
Would you rather be the funniest or smartest person in the room and why?
Funniest, because when you are the smartest, you’ll just be bothered by how stupid everyone else is.
Name the best place you’ve visited in Chicago.
There is a taco stand that started out of someone’s southside apartment during the pandemic, and eating these tacos is close to a spiritual experience. I would tell you the name, but I’d have to kill you since it’s not completely a legit business.
