sdgoc logoSaint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church was founded in 1927 at its current location on Winona Street, on the north side of Chicago, along with its Solon Greek School.  Initially constructed as a simple Parish & Greek Parochial School, the St. Demetrios Churches and its school have grown dramatically over the years to become one of the leading Greek Orthodox Churches in North America.

Located on a humble side street our church has served the Greek Orthodox Community in a humble manner for the past 80+ years serving the needs of over 500 stewards.  A Greek Cultural Center, the George P. Kokalis library, gymnasium and auditorium were established in the early 1960’s and served as a gateway for thousands of immigrants from Greece to the new world.

Saint Demetrios has many active & vibrant auxiliary organizations and is home to the Ladies Philoptochos Society, whose philanthropic efforts have benefited the Greek community.  Active orginazations serving young and old exist today including “Young at Heart”, Goya, and an athletic league, along with the Solon Greek School and Religious Education Programs.
