Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) presents the C4 Miles Run/Walk: Making Strides for Mental Health, on Sunday, May 2, 2010. The 4-mile run, 2-mile walk begins at Montrose Avenue and Simonds Drive at the lakefront. C4's goal is to raise funds as well as awareness of mental illness, which affects about one in five Americans every year. "There's still significant stigma, which prevents so many people from seeking treatment," explains C4 Development Director Marta Bailey, adding the C4 Miles was timed to coincide with National Mental Health Awareness Month. "We hope this race will let people know that C4 is here to help." C4 provides mental health, substance abuse treatment, and specialized services for individuals recovering from sexual assault to more than 7,000 low-income men, women and children every year on Chicago's North Side.
