From world class runners to physically challenged athletes who will compete in the Walk, Run or Roll competition, the Half Marathon offers an extremely fast, flat course with chip timing, 5-year age group awards, $5,000 in cash prizes and commemorative medals for all finishers.

Since 2008, the Half Marathon has raised more than $150,000 for the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer and Research, the South West Special Recreation Association and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. In addition, this years race will benefit the Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens in Palos Heights. A 2010 Governors Hometown Award and several years of recognition by the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) are additional reasons to expect a full field in 2015.

What's New in 2015?
This year, Pace Groups will be running in the First Midwest Half Marathon. There will be 2 runners in each group, with completion times targeted at 1:35, 1:45, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20 and 2:30. Running with a Pace Group is FREE, but you must sign up for a Pace Group when you pick up your official packet at the Health Fair & Expo on Saturday, May 3rd. A non-denominational church service will be held from 6:30 AM to 6:45 AM on May 4th.

The 1/2 mile Walk, Run or Roll, coordinated by the South West Special Recreation Association for children with special needs, will occur on the main course immediately after the half marathon runners have left the starting line.

Advanced Chip Timing System!!!
The 4th installment of the First Midwest Bank Southwest Half Marathon will feature break-through technology with the use of the D-tag, a disposable timing chip!

What is so smashing about the new d-tags? First, the chip will be attached to your bib, which will then need to be attached to your shoe on race day - so no having to pick up your chip in separate locations during packet pick-up! Second, and most importantly... the chips can be tossed in the garbage when you are done running. No need to stop during your cool down to have your chip removed and no worries if you lose your chip - no charge for lost chips!

Packet Pick-Up at the Health Fair and Expo
Participants are required to pick up their race packet (Bib #, T-shirt, etc) at the Expo/Health Fair, which will take place on Saturday, May 4th from 9am to 3pm at Moraine Valley Church (6300 W. 127th St, Palos Heights, IL 60463). No registration will be available on this day or on race day.
