It will again be preceded by a Health Fair the day before (May 4th) to be held at nearby Moraine Valley Church.
The half-marathon course route is USATF (USA Track & Field)-certified with only three turns.
This "green" course is flat and fast and runs alongside the beautiful forest preserves.
Participation also gives runners the opportunity to improve their corral position in the Chicago Marathon.
The First Midwest Half-Marathon is the only half-marathon in Illinois to be honored
with the prestigious "Governors Home Town Award."
Over the past 5 years, $125,000 in event proceeds was donated to four worthy charities: the American Cancer Society (in support of prostate cancer and research), the South West Special Recreation Association (benefiting special needs children), the Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens and, The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

Advanced Chip Timing System!!!
|
The 4th installment of the First Midwest Bank Southwest Half Marathon will feature break-through technology with the use of the D-tag, a disposable timing chip!
What is so smashing about the new d-tags? First, the chip will be attached to your bib, which will then need to be attached to your shoe on race day - so no having to pick up your chip in separate locations during packet pick-up! Second, and most importantly... the chips can be tossed in the garbage when you are done running. No need to stop during your cool down to have your chip removed and no worries if you lose your chip - no charge for lost chips!
